Youth...Don't Worry, You'll Outgrow It!

We live in a country that is preoccupied with youth--being young. Everything in our society is geared toward the young. We can't appreciate our 'golden years' because we're being told to avoid them at all costs. Clairol will take care of the gray hair, Botox and Juvederm will erase any wrinkles, and various procedures will handle any 'gravity' problems. And since a mind is a terrible thing to waste, we consume massive amounts of ginseng, hoping to improve our failing memory.  Now we're told that sixty is the new fifty, etc., so that we don't feel so old. We may eat smarter and exercise more, but I am here to tell you, there are many days that I feel every one of my years! And what's wrong with that? Getting older isn't something we should be ashamed of--something we should try to hide. We should wear our years proudly, we earned them.

The problem with trading maturity for youth is that the balance is disturbed. The young are supposed to learn and gain wisdom from the old. But today that doesn't happen because somewhere along the line, the youth became all knowing. If you're over thirty, you're in danger of losing your credibility and moving into the 'tolerated' zone. Have you noticed, there is no such thing as customer service anymore. Why? Look at who's serving you. A young person. They haven't been taught proper customer service because--their manager is young too

For the most part, young people today are rude and disrespectful. I listen to kids talk to their parents, and am amazed that they are still living, let alone have a full set of teeth! And, I've even heard parents apologize to their kids for upsetting them! It's like Stepford, only the kids have the remotes, and are in charge. And, like our parents before us, we swear the world is going to hell in a hand-basket.

But here's the beauty of life. As we get older, so do they. And once again, they outgrow their youth and enter maturity, and we have one more chance to change the course of society.

One of my pet peeves. Love this hub. Work places are just as guilty too. Nursing homes 'letting go' of older staff and hiring younger people. What in hell does some 25 year old know about what older people need or even want? Today's youth is so used to Telling older people what they need and Never listening. If I'm ever in a nursing home, I'll give em all a hard time. Plus, clerks in stores act snotty to everyone over 30.

Thank you! Yep! If you are lucky enough to get a job, your manager is probably going to be 20-something. But look who's doing the interviewing. Like you said, it's EVERYWHERE!
